He led operations to suppress the uprisings that arose during the reign of Emperor Ershi Huang, and repeatedly destroyed rebel groups. In 207, he was defeated in battle against the army of the Chu dynasty, led by Xiang Yu, at the Battle of Juilu. Fearing the emperor, he surrendered to Xiang Yu along with 200,000 Qin soldiers. This event predetermined the defeat of the Qin Empire and the subsequent liquidation of the dynasty. From Xiang Yu, he received the title of Yun-wang (雍王) and land in the Guanzhong region, in accordance with the administrative structure of 18 kingdoms established by Xian Yu. Liu Bang later occupied his territory, and he committed suicide a year later in the besieged city.

Biography

After a successful operation, Zhang Han headed east and defeated the Chen She rebel army. then he went against the rebels of the kingdom of Wei and also defeated Wei and Qi. Despite the victories won by the Qin, the uprising flared up even more.

Then Zhang Han lost the battle to the army of Xiang Liang, who came to the aid of Tian Rong from the kingdom of Qi.

However, in a campaign to the east, Zhang Han managed to win the Battle of Dingtao, where Xiang Liang was killed.

In 207 B.C. e. Zhang Han attacked the rebellious kingdom of Zhao and surrounded Juylu (now Juylu County 巨鹿县, Xingtai County, Hebei Province). Zhao Wang turned to Chu Huai Wang for help. Xiang Yu went to Zhao to help, and the battle of Juylu took place, in which the Qin troops were defeated, and the Qin general Wang Li died. Zhang Han sent Sima Xin to the capital to call for reinforcements, but Zhao Gao did not let him see the emperor, and he was refused. Sima Xin barely escaped the chase, and reported to Zhang Han that Zhao Gao had usurped power in Qin.

Zhang, after Sima Xin's report, realized that he had no choice - either he would die in battle against Chu, or he would be killed at the court of Zhao Gao on false slander or slander, as many Qin generals and nobles had already been killed. Then Zhang Han decided to surrender to Xiang Yu with a 200,000-strong army, sending a messenger to him to conduct secret negotiations. They soon arranged a meeting, and Zhang Han complained to Xian Yu about Zhao Gao. This episode practically turned the war in favor of Chu.

Xiang Yu awarded Zhang Han with the title of Yun-wang (雍王), assigning him a fertile territory near the capital Xianyang. Having overheard conversations among the soldiers of the surrendered Qin army through spies, Xiang Yu came to the conclusion that it was unreliable and could turn against him. He separated Zhang Han, Sima Xin and several generals from his army, giving them titles, and 200,000 Qin soldiers left without command were unexpectedly surrounded and killed at night.

In 206 BC. BC, when the Qin empire fell, Xiang Yu divided China into 18 kingdoms. The Guanzhong region near the capital was divided into three allotments. There was a trick to this division. It was impossible not to give Liu Ban the Guanzhong region, since it was promised by Huaf-wang even before the assault began. Therefore, he got the most distant territory, and the other two were given to Zhang Han and Sima Xin (with the title of Sai-wang). The calculation was to weaken Liu Bang, who had to come into conflict with the former Qin generals.

China's most popular actor Zhang Han ("From Ship to Ball") and viewership queen Zhao Ri Ying ("Female Prime Minister") starred in the multi-generational drama "Time to Eat Shan Shan". The drama won the No. 1 Romantic Comedy Award in China, where there are over 100 channels, in the most popular time slot. “Time to Eat Shan Shan” is finally out on DVD in Japan on June 3rd!
Today we present to your attention an interview with Zhang Han, who plays a cold at first glance, but gentle at heart, an active offspring of a rich and influential family.

Tell us what inspired you to do this drama?
This drama is based on a well-known internet novel in China, which describes a flawless and autocratic CEO who is a dream of women. I sensed moments in the style and structure of the story that had never been seen before, and so I wanted to challenge this work.

"Time to Eat Shan Shan" is produced by the same production team as "From the Ship to the Ball". Did you have the feeling that this time something is different?
Indeed, the same writing team worked on these dramas. All their work is very convincing. This is a writing team from Taiwan, but they have many years of experience in China, and over the years they have been able to perfectly grasp the situation here, and the script was full of heartfelt understanding. In fact, Chinese youth also seemed to have similar feelings. Especially for girls and boys working in offices.

Just like in From Ship to Ball, you play a young man from a wealthy family. When you created Feng Teng, did you use any works, how did you prepare for this role?
When I got the offer to play the part, it seems like a lot of fans of the original work thought I didn't fit the character. And so I thought about how I could get inside this role. The main character was born into a family of multimillionaires, and this distinguishes him from ordinary rich people. He lost his parents when he was a child and then took over the family business. Since he has a younger sister, he naturally became the head of the family. In addition, he is not just a wealthy man endowed with prudence: he also leads a very sensible lifestyle. He does not scatter money right and left, and does not behave as he pleases. His responsible lifestyle is also combined with health care. This had a profound effect on me as well. The main character, when he is not at work, goes fishing, plays basketball. However, he does not drink alcohol. He does not go to bars and nightclubs, and is a really worthy young man.

What caused the greatest difficulty in playing this role? For example, there was probably pressure from readers regarding the image of the role, or there were people who felt inconsistent with the original work. What was the most difficult thing about shooting in such conditions?
I think it was an approximation to the role. Due to the fact that the protagonist is a multimillionaire, although he has money, he also has to cope with enormous pressure. So when faced with the creation of this role, I studied the stories of rich people, putting my imagination to work at full speed. This was the most difficult moment. After I accepted the offer, the readers' doubts about the casting did not bother me.

Have your feelings changed since you actually started playing? Did you want, for example, starting from the middle of the drama, in its last part, to approach the image of the role that the readers of the novel cherished?
No, there was nothing like that. To be honest, Feng Teng's character was too flawless for the readers, like a deity. His fans called him “Great God Feng” like that, and he was almost like a god to them. So in order to break out of Feng Teng's too tight confines, I had no choice but to add my own style. I was allowed to read the script three times, after which I was able to create my own "Feng Teng" and wanted to play it.

This was your first joint shooting in a pair with actress Zhao Ri Ying who played the role of Shan Shan. Did you first work together as partners and then start shooting, or did you start to trust each other just in the process?
At the time of reading the script, we did not know each other. Since I was involved in other projects before filming started, I could only get a brief introduction to her. At the stage when I read the script, before I start creating a role, I need to create an idea about this role. If this works out, then you can read the script while remembering the face of your shooting partner. If I can see her as Shan Shan, then I can empathize quite naturally. That was the feeling.

In other words, both of you started filming without too much difficulty. Tell me, Zhao Ri Ying, what kind of person is she?
Since we had no prior experience working together, I didn't know much about it. On the first day of shooting, she matched the image of Shan Shan that I had. She was dainty and short, ate a lot, and her face was perfectly round. Exactly the same as my idea of her role. At that time, there were people on the filming team who thought that her face was too round and recommended that she go on a diet. But I opposed. Said if she was going to play Shan Shan, then she should be a girl who eats a lot.

Can you tell us about any incidents that happened during filming?
She really liked the food that participated in the filming. Just like Shan Shan from the drama, she is a big eater. There were a lot of scenes where the main characters were together, but she started to eat even before the signal to start filming, and it looked like she was really very hungry (laughs). Since my parents sometimes came to the shooting, my mother always brought some goodies. And each time there was also a portion of lunch for Ri Ying.

It looks like you have a good relationship. In addition, you are called the "Food Couple" and you often appear on television together. You didn't know each other before, but after getting to know each other, did you consult with each other about the performance?
Of course, we will certainly consult. At first, when we didn't know each other well, we played separately. But thinking that mutual understanding is important for us, I began to consult with her. The script was initially good, but once I tried to add funny notes, I wanted to add more of them. For the couple we play, you need an interaction that only two can do at once. For example, their habits when they are together. During the Ship to Ball days, Joe Chen and I also came up with tricks. For example, during a quarrel, she pretends to call on the phone. And thus calms me down. It was a conversation without words. I pretend to pick up the phone, and all the dissatisfaction disappears. This is their common way to get rid of awkwardness after an argument. In this drama, by pinching Shan Shan's face, I emphasize how cute her cheeks are.

Among the many nicknames you're given are "The Eating Couple", "Lake Couple" and many more. Do you like any of these images?
I like "A couple who love to eat." Many of my friends told me, “When you watch this drama, you unconsciously start to want to eat liver.” I'm glad that we were able to help create an appetite for everyone.

Feng Teng is very kind to Shan Shan and does a lot for her. In reality, how do you show your tenderness for a girl? Or, how do you show it? Was there an experience in your life when you managed to touch a girl?
I prefer not to do any ostentatious things. I believe that the feelings of a couple are something that arises day after day. Feng Teng says to Shan Shan: “What matters is not what they say, but what they do.” Feng Teng is not very good at showing his feelings in conversation, but he silently does everything for her. Even when what he did is unknown to her, when the girl finds out about it, she will surely be touched.

Is there a scene in this drama that made a particularly strong impression on you?
The scene of the first kiss was very dramatic. She filmed in Shanghai, in Xintiandi. It was Christmas then, and when a couple kissed there, a sensor went off, and the Christmas tree and the whole street were lit up at the same time. It was really romantic.

Feng Teng is constantly acting very cool. He doesn't tend to inadvertently express his emotions in words, but he loves Shan Shan. What is the best way to see Feng Teng's love by his behavior towards a girl?
There are many variations here, but… Still, I think the reason why this drama has become so popular is because it details everyday life. There are no major experiences or joys, there are no such frequent events as accidents or betrayals, no one kills anyone, no one dies - nothing like that. It's like the line from this drama, "Our love is based on what we eat together", and I feel like this scene is similar to our real life.

You sang the ending theme song of the drama “From the Ship to the Ball”, and this time you sang the opening theme song. Do you want the listeners to feel something in this song? With what emotions did you sing it?
When I was recording this song, I was overwhelmed with feelings. In this song, a man fully and unconditionally accepts his girlfriend. In addition, he makes her a promise. When I sang this song, my voice broke two or three times due to the depth of the emotions I experienced. Perhaps also from the fact that I empathized with my own character, I became a little emotional; I wanted to cry.

For Japanese realities, a completely impossible moment - why was Feng Teng both outdoors and indoors constantly wearing a coat?
It actually has to do with what was behind the scenes, I confess (laughs). Since the sound was recorded immediately on the set, it was forbidden to use air conditioners (for heating) during filming. This was the case during the scenes both in Feng Teng's apartment and in the old Shanghai family estate. At the coldest time, the temperature in the room dropped below zero, it also happened that steam came out of the mouth; therefore, when it was cold in warm clothes and sweaters, and even in a coat it was too chilly, even though everything happened indoors, I didn’t want to take off my coat (laughs).

Did you expect the drama to have high viewership ratings? You have put in a lot of effort to achieve these results. Did they meet expectations, or did they go beyond them?
All members of the film crew tried very hard to make a good work. And yet, we received a response that far exceeded expectations. During filming, we talked with the director if the content of this drama is too flat. There are no special difficulties, the characters of the characters also do not change. The dramas that have been popular lately have many ups and downs that capture the viewer's heart. In fact, playing in a flat story is quite difficult. This calls into question the attractiveness of the character's personality. And attractive characters attract viewers. We got a much bigger response than we expected and were very surprised.

Looking back again, what is the reason behind the success of this drama?
Probably, the fact is that this is a story about ordinary life, there is a sense of closeness in it; probably, by this we won the sympathy of the female half of the audience. In addition, this drama can awaken the imagination to imagine what Feng Teng's daily life is like. Everyone just dreams of the perfect fairy tale.

Now you already have a lot of experience in participating in various works. What type of work would you like to try your hand at in the future? If you had a choice, what criteria and reasons for choosing would you use?
For a long time I have been choosing this way: I want to play a role that I have never played before. At the moment, I try to act in films as much as possible. I am currently filming a comedy film in Hong Kong. For me, this is the first such experience. Before that, I was filming a film about a nostalgic youth in Inner China. This is a piece about dealing with the experience of failure and failure after graduating from university and entering adulthood. The hero was originally a cheerful young man, but faced with the real world, he begins to lead a miserable existence, earning money for a living with musical performances on the streets of the "underground city" in Beijing. It was a very well crafted story. I would like to try to cope with a role full of events and drama.

A few words for your Japanese fans.
Hmmm… First of all, I would like Japanese viewers to get to know me through this drama. Since the characteristics of the actor himself are transferred to his hero in one way or another, I myself am inside Feng Teng. And after that, if you slowly spend a little time on it, you can understand myself.
