The proposal did not find support in the Ministry of Education and Science: First Deputy Minister Natalya Tretyak stated that she did not consider such changes appropriate. The opinions of other experts were divided.

“Neither in the coming academic year, nor in the coming years, September 1 will cease to be the Day of Knowledge, when millions of schoolchildren cross the threshold of school,” the minister assured.
Livanov made the corresponding statement after presidential aide Igor proposed postponing the start of the school year in Russia to increase the tourist flow during the high season. “Why does everyone have to go to school on September 1st? You can make the school year from September 15th. This is an important issue for increasing tourist flow. Russia has objective reasons for applying Western European experience. What teachers think
Classes in Russian educational institutions (including higher education) have traditionally begun on September 1 since 1935. This date has already become a kind of holiday, a tradition for both children and adults. Teacher, honorary worker of general education Natalya Arkharova is sure that postponing the start of the school year will be, first of all, a blow to traditions.
“I would probably be wary of such changes. In our time, more than one tradition has been broken, and I don’t see any fruits from this breaking,” the teacher shares in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru.
