Charles Perrault can be called one of the favorite storytellers of all time. After all, such wonderful and magical fairy tales as "Cinderella", "Sleeping Beauty", "Little Red Riding Hood", "Puss in Boots" and many others belong to him. But today we will talk about another wonderful story written by Charles Perrault - "Donkey's Skin". We propose to briefly familiarize yourself with the content of this tale, based on which several films were shot - in 1970 in France, with Catherine Deneuve and Jean Marais in the lead roles, and in 1982 in the USSR, with Vera Novikova, Alexander Galibin, Vladimir Etush and others famous actors.

So, the fairy tale "Donkey Skin" begins with the fact that in one kingdom there lived a king. He was immensely kind and happy, because his wife was the most beautiful woman in the world, and their only daughter was hardly inferior to her mother in beauty and virtue. The kingdom flourished thanks to wise government. But still not only him, because in one of the stables there lived an old donkey, which had a wonderful property - to defecate with gold.

One day a misfortune happened - the queen fell seriously ill and soon died. But before she died, she managed to express her last wish. She wanted her husband to marry again, but the main condition was that his chosen one was more beautiful than the queen herself. No matter how many then they looked for a new wife for the widower, they did not find it. But one day he saw in the garden his own daughter, who surpassed her mother in beauty, and, having fallen in love with her, decided to marry her. The girl was shocked by such a wish from her father and asked for help from her godmother, the Lilac Sorceress. She advised her to ask the king an unbearable task - to kill the golden donkey and give her his skin. The princess obeyed and puzzled dad. He grieved, but agreed, and soon the donkey skin lay at the feet of the princess. But the girl did not want to give up and marry her father, because this is a great sin. Therefore, again on the advice of her godmother, she put this skin on herself, smeared herself with mud and ran away from the palace at night.

In this form, she wandered around the city until good people warmed her up, taking her to work in the barnyard. She was given the nickname "Donkey Skin", she was so black and terrible. But one day she decided to transform back into a princess and, locked in her closet, knocked on the floor with a magic wand that her godmother gave her before escaping. Immediately, a chest appeared in front of her with her beautiful clothes. The girl washed, combed her hair, changed her clothes and began to show off in front of the mirror. The prince, who was visiting the owners for whom the Donkey Skin worked, accidentally saw her through the keyhole and fell in love. Returning home from the guests, he fell ill and said that he would be saved only by a cake that a girl who lived in a closet with such and such people would cook. The message was brought to the creep and ordered to bake a cake. She was delighted and, once again donning her luxurious clothes, locked herself in and began to cook. But she accidentally dropped her ring into the dough, which the prince discovered while eating the pie.

He announced that he would marry the girl who would fit the ring, regardless of whether she was a princess or a beggar. Many girls flocked to the fitting - everyone wanted to become the wife of such a handsome man. Donkey Skin was brought in by force, although she had time to change into her usual luxurious clothes when she heard a knock on her door. She threw a donkey skin over her beautiful dress and went into the palace, accompanied by laughing guards. The prince put a ring on her finger, and it fit her. Then she took off her vile skin and appeared before everyone in all her glory. Soon a wedding was played, to which the girl's father was also invited. It turned out that while his daughter was gone, he managed to marry a beautiful widow - the queen of a neighboring country, so now he was very happy for his daughter and blessed her marriage with the prince. This is how the fairy tale of Ch. Perrault “Donkey Skin” ended happily.

In a rich kingdom lived a king with a beautiful queen. They had a daughter, more beautiful than whom they did not meet in the whole state and beyond. In the stable stood a donkey that brought wealth to the kingdom - gold coins. They took great care of him.

They all lived happily until the queen fell ill. Before her death, she conveyed her last wish to the king: let him marry a woman who will be more beautiful than her.

After the death of the queen, the ministers asked the king to marry again, since the state needed an heir. But no matter how much they looked for a bride for him, they couldn't find a better queen. Once the inconsolable king looked out the window and saw his daughter - she was beautiful. The king's mind was clouded, and he decided to marry his own daughter.

The old fairy decided to help the girl get rid of this marriage. On her advice, the princess gave her father an assignment three times to make her three dresses, beautifully similar to the sky, sun and moon. And all three tasks were completed. For the fourth time, the girl, at the direction of the fairy, asked that a gray donkey be slaughtered. By order of the king, this condition was also fulfilled.

Then the princess decided to leave the palace. She put on the skin of a donkey, smeared soot on her face and set off. For a long time she could not find a refuge until the owners of the farm took her for dirty work. For her kindness and hard work, the owners fell in love with the girl, despite her repulsive appearance.

Once the prince of this kingdom came to the farm to rest after hunting. By chance, he wandered into the part of the house where the princess was sitting in a small room. Out of curiosity, the prince looked through the keyhole and saw a girl more beautiful than whom he had never met. To his question, the farmers replied that their worker lives in this room.

The prince returned home, sad and sick from anguish. The king and queen were inconsolable. They agreed to fulfill any desire of their son, if only he recovered. Then the prince asked the farm worker from the small room to bake him a cake. A servant came and gave the girl the royal order. The princess did as she was told, and put a ring in the cake. When the prince was eating the pie, he found it and ordered to find the owner of this ring. But this ring did not fit any of the girls and young women. Then the prince sent for the girl from the farm. The princess came and put on the ring, then shed her donkey skin and appeared in all her beauty. The happy prince invited guests from neighboring states to the wedding. The princess's father was also invited. He arrived with his second wife. When the king saw his daughter, he was very happy. They made up, and her father made her the ruler of his kingdom.

The prince and princess got married and lived happily ever after.

Fairy tale teaches believe in goodness, forgive insults, understand and appreciate a person not for his appearance, but for a kind and sensitive heart.

Donkey skin

The poetic tale begins with a description of the happy life of the brilliant king, his beautiful and faithful wife and their adorable baby daughter. They lived in a magnificent palace in a rich and flourishing country. In the royal stable next to the frisky horses, "a well-fed donkey hangs out his ears peacefully." "The Lord has adjusted his womb so that if he spoiled at times, so in gold and silver."

But "in the prime of her luxuriant years, the wife of the ruler was suddenly struck down by an illness." Dying, she asks her husband "to go down the aisle a second time only with that chosen one who will finally be more beautiful and worthy of me." Her husband “swore to her through the river of mad tears in everything that she was waiting for ... Among widowers he was one of the noisiest! So wept, so wept ... "However," not a year has passed since the conversation about matchmaking is shameless. " But the deceased is surpassed in beauty only by her own daughter, and the father, inflamed with a criminal passion, decides to marry the princess. She, in despair, goes to her godmother - a good fairy who lives "in the wilderness of forests, in the darkness of the cave, between shells, corals, mother of pearl." To upset a terrible wedding, the godmother advises the girl to demand from her father a wedding dress of the shade of clear days. "The task is tricky - not feasible." But the king of "tailors called the masters and ordered from the high throne chairs that the present would be ready by tomorrow, otherwise how could he not hang them up for an hour!" And in the morning they carry a "wonderful gift". Then the fairy advises the goddaughter to demand silk "moonlight, unusual - he will not be able to get it." The king calls the embroiderers - and in four days the dress is ready. With delight, the princess almost obeys her father, but, “urged by the godmother,” asks for an outfit of “wonderful sunny flowers”. The king threatens the jeweler with terrible tortures - and in less than a week he creates "porphyry from porphyry." - What a marvel - new things! - the fairy whispers contemptuously and orders to demand the skin of the precious donkey from the sovereign. But the king's passion is stronger than avarice - and the princess is immediately brought the skin.

Here “the stern godmother found that disgust was inappropriate on the paths of goodness,” and on the advice of the fairy, the princess promises to marry the king, and she herself, throwing a nasty skin over her shoulders and smearing her face with soot, runs out of the palace. The girl puts wonderful dresses in the box. The fairy gives her goddaughter a magic twig: "As long as it is in your hand, the box will crawl behind you in the distance, like a mole hiding under the ground."

Royal messengers search in vain for the fugitive throughout the country. The courtiers are in despair: "no wedding, therefore, no feasts, no cakes, hence no pastries ... The chaplain was more upset: he did not have time to have a snack in the morning and said goodbye to the wedding treat."

And the princess, dressed as a beggar woman, wanders along the road, looking for “even a place for a hen-woman, even a swineherd. But the beggars themselves spit after slob. " Finally, he takes the unfortunate farmer as a servant - “to clean up the pig stalls and wash the greasy rags. Now in the closet behind the kitchen is the princess's yard. " Rural impudents and “peasant disgustingly bother her”, and even mock the poor thing. Her only joy is that, having locked herself in her closet on Sunday, wash, dress up in one or another wondrous dress and turn around in front of the mirror. "Ah, the moonlight makes her a little pale, and the sun makes her a little fat ... Everyone is better off with a blue dress!"

And in these parts "a magnificent and omnipotent king kept a brilliant poultry yard." This park was often visited by the prince with a crowd of courtiers. "The princess has already fallen in love with him from afar." Ah, if only he loved girls in donkey skin! - the beauty sighed. And the prince - "a heroic look, a fighting grip" - somehow at dawn came across a poor hut and saw through the crack a beautiful princess in a marvelous outfit. Struck by her noble appearance, the young man did not dare to enter the shack, but, returning to the palace, “did not eat, did not drink, did not dance; he lost interest in hunting, opera, amusements and girlfriends ”- and thought only of the mysterious beauty. He was told that a filthy beggar Donkeyskin lived in a shabby hut. The prince doesn't believe. "He cries bitterly, he cries" - and demands that Donkey Skin bake him a cake. The loving queen mother will not reread her son, and the princess, “hearing these news,” hurries to knead the dough. “They say: working extraordinarily, she ... quite, quite by accident! - dropped the ring into the dough. " But "my opinion - here was her calculation." After all, she saw how the prince looked at her through the crack!

Having received the cake, the patient "devoured it with such a greedy passion that, really, it seems like a fair amount of luck that he did not swallow the ring." Since the young man in those days "lost weight terribly ... the doctors decided unanimously: the prince is dying of love." Everyone begs him to marry - but he agrees to marry only one who can put on a tiny ring with an emerald on her finger. All maidens and widows begin to thin their fingers.

However, the ring did not fit the noble noblewomen, no lovely grisettes, or the cooks and farm laborers. But then "from under the donkey's skin appeared a fist, like a lily." The laughter ceases. Everyone is shocked. The princess goes to change - and an hour later appears in the palace, shining with dazzling beauty and luxurious outfit. The king and queen are happy, the prince is happy. Masters from all over the world are called to the wedding. The sane father of the princess, seeing his daughter, cries with joy. The prince is delighted: "what a fortunate occasion that his father-in-law is so powerful." "A sudden thunder ... The queen of fairies, a witness to the misfortunes of the past, descends her goddaughter forever to glorify virtue ..."

Moral: "It is better to endure the terrible suffering than the duty of honor to change." After all, “youth is able to quench with a crust of bread and water, while she has an outfit in a gold box”.

Blue Beard

There was once a very rich man who had a blue beard. She so disfigured him that, seeing this man, all the women fled in fear. His neighbor, a noble lady, had two daughters of wondrous beauty. He asked to marry any of these girls. But none of them wanted a spouse with a blue beard. They also did not like the fact that this man had already been married several times and no one knew what fate befell his wives.

Bluebeard invited the girls, their mother, friends and girlfriends to one of his luxurious country houses, where they had fun for a whole week. And so the youngest daughter began to think that the beard of the owner of the house was not so blue, and that he himself was a very respectable man. The wedding was soon decided.

A month later, Bluebeard told his wife that he was leaving on business for six weeks. He asked her not to be bored, to have fun, to call her friends, gave her the keys to all chambers, pantries, caskets and chests - and forbade her to enter only one small room.

His wife promised to obey him, and he left. Immediately, without waiting for the messengers, the girlfriends came running. They were eager to see all the riches of Bluebeard, but with him they were afraid to come. Now, admiring the house full of priceless treasures, the guests enviously extolled the happiness of the newlywed, but she could only think of a small room ...

Finally the woman threw the guests away and rushed headlong down the secret staircase, almost twisting her neck. Curiosity defeated fear - and the beauty opened the door with trepidation ... In the dark room, the floor was covered with caked blood, and the bodies of Bluebeard's former wives, whom he had killed, hung on the walls. In horror, the newlywed dropped the key. Picking it up, she locked the door and, trembling, rushed to her room. There, the woman noticed that the key was stained with blood. The unfortunate woman took a long time to clean the stain, but the key was magic, and the blood, wiped off from one side, came out from the other ...

Bluebeard returned that evening. His wife greeted him with ostentatious delight. The next day he demanded the keys from the poor thing. Her hands were trembling so much that he immediately guessed everything and asked: "Where is the key to the small room?" After various excuses, I had to bring a dirty key. “Why is it covered in blood? asked Bluebeard. - Did you enter a small room? Well, madam, there you will stay now. "

The woman, sobbing, threw herself at her husband's feet. Beautiful and sad, she would have pity even a stone, but Bluebeard's heart was harder than a stone. “Let me at least pray before I die,” the poor girl asked. "I'll give you seven minutes!" - answered the villain. Left alone, the woman called her sister and told her: “Sister Anna, look if my brothers are coming? They promised to visit me today. " The girl climbed the tower and from time to time said to the unfortunate woman: "There is nothing to see, only the sun is beating down and the grass is shining in the sun." And Bluebeard, clutching a large knife in his hand, shouted: "Come here!" - "Just a minute!" - answered the poor thing, and kept asking sister Anna, if you could see the brothers? The girl noticed clouds of dust in the distance - but it was a herd of sheep. Finally she saw two horsemen on the horizon ...

Then Bluebeard roared through the house. The trembling wife came out to him, and he, grabbing her by the hair, was about to cut off her head, but at that moment a dragoon and a musketeer burst into the house. Drawing their swords, they rushed at the villain. He tried to escape, but the brothers of the beauty pierced him with steel blades.

The wife inherited all the wealth of Bluebeard. She gave a dowry to her sister Anna when she married a young nobleman who had long loved her; the young widow helped each of the brothers achieve the rank of captain, and then she herself married a good man who helped her forget about the horrors of her first marriage.

Moral: “Yes, curiosity is a scourge. It confuses everyone, it was born on the mountain to mortals. "

Rike with a tuft

One queen had such an ugly son that the courtiers doubted for a long time whether he was a man. But the fairy godmother assured that he would be very smart and would be able to endow with his mind the person he loved. Indeed, having barely learned to babble, the child began to say lovely things. On his head he had a small crest, so the prince was nicknamed: Rike with a crest.

Seven years later, the queen of a neighboring country gave birth to two daughters; seeing the first - beautiful as day, - the mother was so happy that she almost felt ill, while the second girl turned out to be extremely ugly. But the same fairy predicted that the ugly woman would be very smart, and the beautiful woman would be stupid and awkward, but she would be able to endow the beauty of the one she liked.

The girls grew up - and the beauty always had much less success than her clever sister. And then one day in the forest, where the silly girl went to mourn her bitter lot, the unfortunate woman met the freak Rike. Having fallen in love with her from her portraits, he came to the neighboring kingdom ... The girl told Rika about her misfortune, and he said that if the princess decided to marry him in a year, she would immediately grow wiser. The beauty foolishly agreed - and immediately spoke so witty and graceful that Rike wondered if he had given her more intelligence than he had left to himself? ..

The girl returned to the palace, amazed everyone with her mind and soon became the main adviser to her father; all fans turned away from her ugly sister, and the fame of the beautiful and wise princess thundered all over the world. Many princes wooed the beauty, but she made fun of them all, until finally one rich, handsome and intelligent prince appeared ...

Walking through the woods and thinking about choosing a groom, the girl suddenly heard a dull noise under her feet. At the same moment, the earth opened and the princess saw people preparing a sumptuous feast. “This is for Rike, tomorrow is his wedding,” they explained to the beauty. And then the shocked princess remembered that exactly one year had passed since the day of her meeting with the freak.

And soon Rike himself appeared in a magnificent wedding dress. However, the wiser princess flatly refused to marry such an ugly man. And then Rike revealed to her that she can endow her chosen one with beauty. The princess sincerely wished that Rike would become the most beautiful and amiable prince in the world - and a miracle happened!

True, some argue that it's not about magic, but about love. The princess, admiring the intelligence and loyalty of her admirer, stopped noticing his ugliness. The hump began to attach particular importance to the prince's posture, the terrible limp turned into a manner of leaning a little to one side, the slanting eyes acquired a captivating languor, and the big red nose seemed mysterious and even heroic.

The king gladly agreed to marry his daughter to such a wise prince, and the next day they played a wedding, for which the clever Rike had everything ready.

Donkey skin. In a rich kingdom, where even the donkey shit with gold and silver, the queen died. Before her death, she took an oath that the king would marry only a girl more beautiful than a queen. This turned out to be the daughter of the king and queen himself. The king intends to marry his own daughter. The princess, in despair, turns to the fairy godmother and she advises to give impossible tasks to the king, but the king was able to fulfill everything and presented her with an outfit of the shade of a clear day, made of moon silk and sunny flowers, as well as the skin of a precious donkey. The princess assures her father that she will marry, but puts the clothes in a box, hides under the skin and, smearing her face with soot, escapes. The princess gets a job cleaning pigsties and washing rags. Sometimes he takes out his dresses and dresses up. Once the prince spied on her dressing up in a fabulous outfit and fell in love.

The prince in love wanted the girl to bake him a cake. The princess, on an errand, dropped her ring into the cake. The prince found him and vowed to marry the owner of the ring. The women of the kingdom could not pull a tiny ring on their fingers and only a donkey's skin fit the ring. The princess put on a precious outfit and came to the palace. The prince, his parents and the princess's father were happy on the wedding day of the lovers.

Blue Beard. A wealthy widower with a blue beard lived next to a lady who had beautiful daughters. He was previously married, but no one knew where his wives were. He decided to marry again and came to the lady to woo her daughters, and in order to convince one of the beauties to become his wife, he invited them to live with him.

Soon, Bluebeard's wedding took place with the youngest daughter of a neighbor. A month later, Bluebeard left and, leaving the keys to all the halls and chambers, demanded that his wife never enter one room.

Relatives, friends and girlfriends immediately came to visit the newlywed, but she, struck by curiosity, left them and went to inspect the forbidden room. Opening it, she dropped the key to the blood-stained floor of her previous wives. No matter how much she cleaned the key, the blood stains did not leave him. Returning home, Bluebeard, seeing the blood on the key, realized that his wife had disobeyed and, seizing her, tried to cut off his head, but his wife's brothers ran into the house and stabbed him with sharp blades.

The wife inherited all the wealth, provided for her family, and she herself remarried to a kind person.

And the other queen gave birth to two daughters. The first girl was adorable, like an angel, but the second was terribly ugly. The good fairy, having visited both queens, assured that children born scary would be extremely smart, and the beauty would be stupid and extremely awkward. And so it happened. The boy Rike and the plain princess were as smart as how stupid the beauty princess was. Once the silly girl ran away into the forest, where she cried for her fate. There she met Rike. Rike invited her to become his wife in a year, and in return he would share his mind with the princess. She agrees. At the same moment, the beauty grew wiser and, having returned to the palace, the clever, the king appointed the main adviser.

Rumors about an intelligent and beautiful princess spread around the world and grooms began to come. The princess even chose one of them as her husband, when she suddenly saw that many people had come to prepare the wedding feast. It turned out that a year had passed. Rike himself came, but the princess refused to marry the freak. Then Rike said that as he shared his mind, the princess can endow him with beauty. The clever princess agreed and after the wedding, Rike became a handsome prince.

Donkey Skin by Charles Perrault

The tale tells about a king who became distraught with grief after the death of his beloved wife and wanted to marry his daughter. The princess tried to stop him, but could not and was forced to flee the palace, wearing a donkey's skin. It was not easy for the poor girl outside the palace, but happiness found her in the image of a handsome prince ...

Donkey skin read

Once upon a time there was a rich and powerful king. He had as much gold and soldiers as no other king had even dreamed of.

His wife was the most beautiful and intelligent woman in the world. The king and queen lived in harmony and happiness, but they often grieved that they had no children. Finally, they decided to take some girl and raise her like their own daughter. The opportunity soon presented itself. One close friend of the king died, and his daughter, a young princess, was left behind. The king and queen immediately transported her to their palace.
The girl grew and every day she became more and more beautiful. This pleased the king and queen, and, looking at their pupil, they forgot that they had no children of their own.

One day, the queen fell dangerously ill. Day by day she was getting worse and worse. The king did not leave his wife's bed day and night. And she was getting weaker and weaker, and the doctors unanimously said that the queen would never get out of bed. Soon the queen herself realized this. Sensing the approach of death, she called the king and said to him in a weak voice:

I know I will die soon. Before I die, I want to ask you only one thing: if you decide to marry a second time, then marry only that woman who will be more beautiful and better than me.

The king, sobbing loudly, promised the queen to fulfill her wish, and she died.

Having buried his wife, the king could not find a place for himself from grief, did not eat or drink anything, and grew so old that all his ministers were horrified by such a change.

Once, when the king, sighing and crying, was sitting in his room, the ministers came to him and began to ask him to stop grieving and get married as soon as possible.

But the king did not even want to hear about it. However, the ministers did not lag behind him and assured that the king should certainly marry. But no matter how hard the ministers tried, their persuasion did not convince the king. Finally, they bored him so much with their harassment that one day the king said to them:

I promised the late queen to marry a second time if I find a woman who is more beautiful and better than her, but there is no such woman in the whole world. Therefore, I will never marry.

The ministers were glad that the king had surrendered at least a little, and every day they began to show him portraits of the most wonderful beauties so that the king would choose a wife from these portraits, but the king said that the deceased queen was better, and the ministers left with nothing.

Finally, the most important minister came one day to the king and said to him:

King! Does your pupil seem to you both in intelligence and beauty worse than the late queen? She is so smart and beautiful that you will not find a better wife! Marry her!

It seemed to the king that his young pupil, the princess, was indeed better and more beautiful than the queen, and without refusing any more, he agreed to marry the pupil.

The ministers and all the courtiers were pleased, but the princess found it terrible. She didn’t want to be the wife of the old king. However, the king did not listen to her objections and ordered her to prepare for the wedding as soon as possible.

The young princess was desperate. She didn't know what to do. Finally she remembered the sorceress Lilac, her aunt, and decided to consult with her. That same night she went to the sorceress in a golden carriage drawn by a large old ram who knew all the roads.

The sorceress listened attentively to the story of the princess.

If you do exactly what I command you, ”she said,“ nothing bad will happen. First of all, ask the king for a dress as blue as the sky. He can't get you such a dress.

The princess thanked the sorceress for the advice and returned home. The next morning she told the king that until then she would not agree to marry him until she received from him a dress, blue as the sky.

The king immediately summoned the best craftsmen and ordered them to sew a dress as blue as the sky.

If you do not please the princess, ”he added,“ I will order you all to be hanged.

The next day, the masters brought the ordered dress, and in comparison with it, the very blue sky, surrounded by golden clouds, did not seem so beautiful.

Having received the dress, the princess was not so much delighted as frightened. She again went to the sorceress and asked what she should do now. The sorceress was very annoyed that her plan had failed, and ordered the princess to demand a moon-colored dress from the king.

The king could not refuse anything to the princess. He sent for the most skillful craftsmen who were in the kingdom, and in such a formidable voice gave them orders that not even a day had passed before the craftsmen had already brought the dress.

At the sight of this beautiful outfit, the princess burned even more.

The sorceress Lilac came to the princess and, learning about the second failure, said to her:

And on that and the other time, the king managed to fulfill your request. Let's see if he can do it now, when you demand from him a dress that shines like the sun. He could hardly get such a dress. Anyway, we'll buy time.

The princess agreed and demanded such a dress from the king. The king without hesitation gave all the diamonds and rubies from his crown, if only the dress shone like the sun. Therefore, when the dress was brought in and unfolded, everyone immediately closed their eyes: it really shone like a real sun.

One princess was not happy. She went to her room, saying that her eyes ached from the shine, and began to cry bitterly there. The Sorceress Lilac was very saddened that all her advice had come to nothing.

Well, now, my child, ”she said to the princess,“ demand from the king the skin of his beloved donkey. He certainly won't give it to you!

And I must say that the donkey, whose skin the sorceress ordered to demand from the king, was not an ordinary donkey. Every morning, instead of dung, he covered his bedding with shiny gold coins. It is understandable why the king was so fond of this donkey's shore.

The princess was delighted. She was sure that the king would never agree to kill the donkey. She ran merrily to the king and demanded a donkey skin.

Although the king was surprised at such a strange demand, he did not hesitate to fulfill it. The donkey was killed and his skin was solemnly brought to the princess. Now she didn’t know at all what to do. But then the sorceress Lilac came to her.

Don't grieve so much, honey! - she said. - Maybe it's all for the best. Wrap yourself up in a donkey's skin and leave the palace as soon as possible. You don't take anything with you: the chest with your dresses will follow you underground. Here's my magic wand. When you need a chest, hit the ground with your stick and it will appear before you. But go away quickly, don't hesitate.

The princess kissed the sorceress, pulled on a disgusting donkey hide, smeared her face with soot so that no one would recognize her, and left the palace.

The disappearance of the princess caused a great stir. The king sent out a thousand horsemen and many infantry riflemen in pursuit of the princess. But the sorceress made the princess invisible to the eyes of the royal servants. Therefore, the king had to give up his vain searches.

And the princess, meanwhile, walked along the path. She went into many houses and asked to be taken as a servant at least.

But no one wanted to take the princess to him, because in a donkey's skin she seemed unusually ugly.

Finally she reached a large house. The mistress of this house agreed to accept the poor princess as a worker. The princess thanked the hostess and asked what she should do. The hostess told her to do the laundry, look after the turkeys, graze sheep and clean the pig troughs.

The princess was placed in the kitchen. From the very first day the servant began to mock her rudely. However, little by little they got used to it. In addition, she worked very hard, and the hostess did not allow her to offend.

Once, sitting on the bank of a stream, the princess looked into the water as in a mirror.

Looking at herself in the hideous donkey's skin, she was frightened. The princess felt ashamed that she was so dirty, and, quickly throwing off her donkey skin, she bathed in the stream. But when she returned home, she again had to put on a nasty hide.

Fortunately, the next day was a holiday and the princess was not forced to work. She took advantage of this and decided to dress up in one of her rich dresses.

The princess struck the ground with her magic wand, and a chest of outfits appeared in front of her. The princess took out the blue dress that she had received from the king, went to her little room and began to dress up.

She looked at herself in the mirror, admired the wonderful outfit, and since then every holiday she has dressed up in her rich dresses. But, except for sheep and turkeys, no one knew about it. Everyone saw her in a nasty donkey's skin and called her - Donkey's Skin.

Somehow it happened that the young prince was returning from a hunt and drove to rest at the house where the Donkey Skin lived as a worker. He rested a little, and then began to wander around the house and the yard.

By chance he wandered into a dark corridor. There was a locked door at the end of the corridor. The prince was very curious, and he wanted to know who lives behind this door. He peered through the crack. Imagine his surprise when he saw a beautiful elegant princess in a small cramped room! He ran to the hostess to find out who lives in this little room.

They said to him: the girl Donkey Skin lives there, she wears a donkey skin instead of a dress, so dirty and greasy that no one wants to look at her or talk to her. They took the Donkey Skin into the house to graze sheep and clean the pork troughs.

The prince learned nothing more. He returned to the palace, but could not forget the beauty, whom he accidentally saw through the crack of the door. He regretted that he had not gone into the room then and had not met her.

The prince promised himself another time he would certainly do it.

Thinking incessantly about the wonderful beauty, the prince fell seriously ill. His mother and father were in despair. They called doctors, but the doctors couldn't do anything. Finally they said to the queen: her son must have been ill from some great grief. The queen began to ask her son what had happened to him, but he did not answer her. But when the queen knelt down and began to cry, he said:

I want Donkey Skin to bake a pie and bring it as soon as it's ready.

The queen was surprised at this strange desire. She called the courtiers and asked who this Donkey Skin was.

Oh, this is an ugly mess! - explained one courtier. “She lives not far from here and grazes sheep and turkeys.

Well, whoever that Donkey Skin is, said the queen, let her bake a pie for the prince immediately!

The courtiers ran to Donkey Skin and gave her the queen's order, adding that she would carry it out as quickly as possible.

The princess locked herself in her little room, threw off her donkey skin, washed her face and hands, put on a clean dress and began to cook the cake. She took the best flour, but the butter and eggs were the freshest.

Kneading the dough, on purpose or unintentionally, she dropped a ring from her finger. It fell into the dough and remained there. And when the cake was baked, the princess put on a nasty skin, left the room, served the cake to the courtier and asked him whether she should go with him to the prince's son. But the courtier did not even want to answer her and ran with a pie to the palace.

The prince snatched the cake from the courtier and began to eat it so hastily that all the doctors shook their heads and threw up their hands.

Little good portends such impetuosity! they said.

Indeed, the prince ate the pie so greedily that he almost choked on the ring that was in one of the pieces of the pie. But the prince quickly took the ring out of his mouth, and after that he began to eat the cake not so hastily. He studied the ring for a long time. It was so small that it could fit only the prettiest finger in the world. The prince kissed the ring every now and then, then hid it under the pillow and took it out every minute when he thought that no one was looking at him.

All this time he thought about Donkey Skin, but he was afraid to talk about it out loud. Therefore, his illness intensified, and the doctors did not know what to think. Finally they announced to the queen that her son was sick with love. The queen rushed to her son along with the king, who was also upset and upset.

My son, said the saddened king, tell us the girl you love. We promise that we will marry you to her, even if she is the very last maid!

The queen, embracing her son, confirmed the king's promise. The prince, moved by the tears and kindness of his parents, said to them:

Dear father and mother! I myself do not know who that girl I loved so dearly. I will marry the one to whom this ring will fit, whoever she is.

And he took out from under the pillow a donkey skin ring and showed it to the king and queen.

The king and queen took the ring, examined it with curiosity, and, deciding that such a ring could fit only the most beautiful girl, agreed with the prince.

The king ordered to immediately hit the drums and send out walkers throughout the city so that they summon all the girls to the palace to try on the ring.

The skaters ran through the streets and proclaimed that a girl who would fit a ring would marry a young prince.

First, the princesses came to the palace, then the ladies of the court, but no matter how hard they tried to make their fingers thinner, none of them could put on the ring. I had to invite the seamstresses. They were pretty, but their fingers were too thick to fit into the ring.

Finally it was the maids' turn, but they also failed. Everyone has already measured the ring. It didn't fit anyone! Then the prince ordered to call the cooks, dishwashers, swineherds. They were brought in, but their fingers, hardened from work, could not crawl into the ring beyond the nail.

Have you brought this Donkey Skin who recently baked a pie? - asked the prince.

The courtiers burst out laughing and answered him:

Donkey Skin was not called into the palace because it was too dirty and nasty.

Send for her now! - ordered the prince.

Then the courtiers, laughing on the sly, ran after the Donkey's Skin.

The princess heard the beating of drums and the exclamations of the runners, and guessed that all this commotion was raised by her ring. She was very happy when she saw that they were following her. She quickly combed her hair and dressed in a moon-colored dress. As soon as the princess heard that they were knocking on the door and calling her to the prince, she hurriedly threw a donkey skin over her dress and opened the door.

The courtiers mockingly announced to Donkey Skin that the king wanted to marry her his son, and took her to the palace.

Surprised by the unusual appearance of the Donkey Skin, the prince could not believe that this was the same girl he had seen so beautiful and elegant through the crack of the door. Saddened and confused, the prince asked her:

Do you live at the end of a dark corridor, in that big house where I recently visited from hunting?

Yes, she answered.

Show me your hand, the prince continued.

Imagine the amazement of the king and queen and all the courtiers when a small gentle hand appeared from under the black, stained skin and when the ring fit the girl. Then the princess threw off her donkey skin. The prince, struck by her beauty, forgot about his illness and threw himself at her feet, oblivious to himself with joy.

The king and queen also began to hug her and ask if she wanted to marry their son.

The princess, embarrassed by all this, was just about to say something, when suddenly the ceiling opened, and the sorceress Lilac descended into the hall on a chariot of lilac flowers and branches and told everyone present the story of the princess.

The king and queen, after hearing the story of the sorceress, fell in love with the princess even more and immediately gave her in marriage to their son.

Kings of different countries came to the wedding. Some rode in carriages, others on horseback, and the farthest on elephants, on tigers, on eagles.

The wedding was celebrated with luxury and splendor imaginable. But the prince and his young wife paid little attention to all this splendor: they looked only at each other and only saw each other.

Review of the fairy tale "Donkey skin"
I don't really like this tale, because it deals with ugly things, like the king's intention to marry his own daughter. But of course I like the main character herself, she is a brave and determined girl who was not embarrassed by the dirty work, even though she was a princess and was used to a completely different treatment.

A summary, a short retelling of the fairy tale "Donkey skin"
In one kingdom lived a happy king with his queen, and their young and beautiful daughter, a princess. Everything in the kingdom was good and the simple donkey was especially appreciated here, which gave gold coins every morning.
But one day the queen fell ill and realized that she was dying. She took the word from the king that he would definitely marry after her death, but only to the one who would be more beautiful and slimmer than her.
The queen died and the courtiers began to ask the king to marry again, but he kept discouraging. Suddenly, one day he saw his daughter in the garden and decided to marry her, she was so beautiful.
The princess was horrified and ran to the godmother, the fairy Lilac sorceress, who advised her to ask the king for a dress of the color of the sky.
The king called the tailors and in two days the beautiful dress was ready.
Then the Lilac-sorceress advised to ask for a dress of the color of the month. This dress was ready the next day.
Then the princess asked for a dress of the color of the sun, but this dress, decorated with diamonds, was quickly sewn.
Then the Sorceress Lilac advised the princess to ask for the donkey skin, and the king killed the donkey and gave his daughter its skin. Then the fairy told the princess to wrap herself in a skin and leave the palace, and on the way gave her a magic wand so that the princess could summon her dresses.
The donkey-skinned princess left and no one could find her. And she got a job on a farm to do the dirtiest work and everyone considered her a dirty trick.
One day she saw her reflection in the lake and was scared. Then she washed herself and saw that her beauty had returned.
At that time, a young prince happened to be on the farm. And the princess in her closet at this time changed into a dress of the color of the sky. The prince casually looked through the keyhole and saw a beautiful stranger. He asked the farmer about her, but he knew nothing.
Then the prince returned to the palace and fell ill. Nobody could cure him. And so the prince asked that they bring him a cake that the Donkey's skin would make.
The princess changed into her dress and made a delicious cake, but accidentally dropped a ring into the dough.
The prince found the ring and became even more ill. He told his father, the king, that he wanted to marry someone who would fit this ring.
Everyone tried to put on the ring, but it did not fit anyone. Then the king called for a donkey skin. The princess dressed in a sun-colored dress and threw a donkey skin on top. The ring immediately came to her and the prince fell on his knees in front of her. The princess rushed to pick him up and the donkey skin fell.
Everyone was amazed at the beauty of the princess. And then the Lilac-sorceress came down and told the story of the princess.
They immediately decided to play a wedding and they sent invitations to everyone, including the princess's father. He arrived with his new wife, the queen dowager, recognized his daughter and blessed the marriage. And then he transferred control of his kingdom to the princess.
