History

The Novosibirsk Institute of Engineers Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography was founded in February 1933 as an Omsk Geodetic Institute. Over time, this institute was relocated in Novosibirsk and in 1939 was renamed the Novosibirsk Institute of Geodesy Engineers, Aerial Photography and Cartography (Niigik). After Miigaik in Moscow, it was the second geodesic university of our country.

In the first year, 50 students were credited. Training was also conducted during the war. In 1948, a specialty engineering geodesy was created. In 1960, Nigaik accepted 400 students and issued 100 graduates into practice. Later, the faculty of absentee training was organized.

In 1968, the planetarium equipment was transferred to Niigiik. The Small Central Device was mounted by the mechanics of the Moscow Planetarium in the Star Hall and began to be served by the staff of the Department of Astronomy and Gravimetry Niigiik under the leadership of V. A. Merkushev. Lectures were held not only for students of Niigiik, but also for residents of the city.

Since 1977, professional training of foreign students began to be held. In 1982, the first edition of Mongolia and Cuba citizens, students on applied geodesy, cartography and astronome geodesyia took place.

Since 1982, and to the present, diplomas of engineers, bachelors, masters around three hundred citizens from Cuba, Mongolia, Hungary, Germany, Syria, China, Vietnam, Laos received diplomas in Sgugyt (Niigik).

With his qualified teaching staff, Niigiik had a greater share in the formation of young frames of geodesy and cartography in our country.

In 1991, a technical lyceum was opened at the Academy, in which schoolchildren study 9, 10 and 11 classes.

In 1994, Niigiik was renamed the Siberian State Geodesic Academy (SGGA).
