A good bonus is a grant to study the Czech language for a year before entering the university. The deadline for submitting documents for a language grant is October this year. You can start learning the language already from January 2019, and at the university itself - from September 2019.

It should be understood that in order to submit documents in such a short time, it is necessary to have a sufficiently high level of knowledge and a willingness to pass international exam in time.

If you understand that this is not about you yet, then you can prepare a little longer for passing the language proficiency exam and apply for training next year - there will already be more options.

In other countries, special financial conditions are offered to certain categories of students. They are called scholarship programs. Scholarships differ significantly from classic Russian Western scholarships. First of all, the fact that for the most part such programs provide a discount on tuition fees. The size may vary. Practice shows that the scholarship almost never covers 100% of the cost of training. But getting a 50% discount is quite real. Foreign students in foreign universities symbolic scholarships are also offered (not exceeding $ 100 - $ 1500).

Types of scholarships

Scholarships in foreign universities are awarded to gifted students for academic, creative, and sporting achievements. This support is called meritbased scholarship. Sometimes scholarships are awarded to students in need of financial assistance. Needbased scholarships, like the first, are awarded on an individual basis.

Another type of financial support for international students is fellowships. Such scholarships are awarded based on gender (special programs for women), social, ethnic, and geographic characteristics. For students of master's and doctoral programs provided for research assistantship for the performance of certain research work and teaching assistantship for achievements in teaching, assistant activities.

Other types of financial support for international students

V foreign universities international students can reduce their tuition fees not only through scholarships. They, on equal terms with the citizens of the country, can receive grants (targeted funds for financing research, projects), sponsorship from individuals, charitable organizations, interested companies (possibly potential employers).

Features of the accrual and use of scholarship funds

Non-cash transfer of funds is practiced in foreign universities. This also applies to regular scholarships, grants and sponsorships. At the expense of scholarship funds, certain items of student's expenses (accommodation, meals, methodological materials etc.), study at a university (partially or completely). Some scholarships are subject to taxes.

Any financial assistance imposes certain obligations on the scholarship holder. In the case of merit based scholarships, this can be a limit on the minimum semester or annual grade point average, with teaching assistantship - on the number of hours spent on a certain type of activity in the interests of the university. In case of violation of the requirements, the scholarship is withdrawn.

The criteria for the award of financial assistance are primarily the academic performance of the candidate, as well as his personal qualities... The social activity of the student within the walls of the educational institution is also taken into account.

Scholarships are usually awarded in countries with high cost learning. But tough selection criteria for scholarships reduce the chances of foreigners to receive financial assistance. Experts in the field of education recommend that you initially choose the country of receiving education according to your income.

A scholarship in Canada is a one-time cash aid (on average from 500 to 5000 CAD, but sometimes we are talking about large amounts), which is provided to students for academic achievement, excellent knowledge of English. Previous work experience and volunteer activities can also be taken into account. It is clear that receiving a scholarship is not only honorable, but also economically beneficial, since the money can be spent, for example, on tuition fees.

OWL students are among the lucky ones!

First, let us prove that getting a scholarship is real.

We are proud that OWL-study students have repeatedly managed to receive material recognition of success!

In particular, in Douglas College, Vancouver, BC there are several of our fellows at once!

For example, this Igor Kreshchenko :

- I had good grades in the certificate, and the OWL-study company helped to prepare a motivation letter - this is my path to the college entrance scholarship, which turned out to be very useful for me! She helped me cover some of my tuition costs. I was very happy when I found out that I would be one of the 5 lucky ones!

Student Irina Kochan also got this opportunity:

- I am studying in the Associate of Science, major in Biology program. I was fortunate enough to have won an introductory scholarship of C $ 2,000 before coming to Vancouver. OWL-study consultants helped to collect all important documents, certificates, IELTS results and other achievements, as well as write a letter explaining why I am entering this particular college, why I chose this particular specialty. And a few weeks before my arrival in Canada, I received an email that congratulated me on my first small victory! I was happy to receive this financial help, which motivated me to study even better and strive for new achievements!

Another our student Maryana Pekelnaya tells:

- The scholarship was a pleasant surprise for me. I entered Douglas College already having higher education and work experience. My achievements in life were positively assessed by the college commission, and I received the desired reward!

Of course, Canadian universities do not give scholarships to foreign students for their beautiful eyes. You need to prove that you are worthy of such an award. This can be done directly during training or, relatively speaking, in advance, upon admission.

To do this, the student needs fill out the registration form, add a letter of motivation, your resume, diplomas confirming participation in various competitions, certificates of completion of courses in various fields of activity, scientific articles etc. Then a special commission considers candidates for a scholarship, identifies really talented and promising individuals who make sense to provide financial assistance.

Only full-time student of a two-year diploma program ... Students in certified one-year programs are not eligible for scholarships. Therefore, if you are looking for a scholarship, firstly, make sure that the university you plan to enroll in has scholarship programs for international students, and secondly, choose a program for two years of study.

Are you interested? Then we suggest that you familiarize yourself with some of the details!

Masters and PhD students are appreciated here!

Separate programs have been developed for foreign masters and graduate students, with the help of which universities can celebrate their merits and achievements in the scientific world.

Getting an education abroad is not cheap. However, most higher education institutions in Europe, the USA and Canada provide special successful students grants, incentive scholarships and discounts. It will not be possible to fully cover the costs of education, but it is quite possible to reduce costs by 20-50 percent.

The main types of incentives

Scholarships for international students are awarded for various achievements in art, science, sports, creativity. Incentives are accrued on an individual basis. These motivations include the following types of payments:

  1. Merit-based scholarship.
  2. Need-based scholarship.
  3. Fellowships.

Graduate and doctoral students receive scholarships for completing a variety of research, teaching, and teaching assignments.

Other types of financial support for foreign students

The types of scholarships abroad have not only the format of discounts for training, but also the targeted provision of financial assistance to individuals who have proven themselves in a particular field. Funds are taken from sponsorships, voluntary donations and potential employers.

All types of scholarships abroad are mainly credited on a non-cash basis. These funds can be used for accommodation, meals, additional education and household needs of the student. Some charges are subject to mandatory tax.

The issuance of a scholarship may be interrupted if the student does not comply with the conditions guaranteeing its receipt (hours and number of classes attended, participation in the extracurricular life of the university, etc.). Academic performance and personality are the determining factors for a student to receive financial aid. In addition, the student's social activity is taken into account. Experts recommend not relying on a scholarship, but initially choosing conditions that are financially acceptable.
